Using a Performance Enhancing Drug (PED) may not always be legal but that doesn’t mean to say there aren’t plenty of legal options and a whole language that goes with it.
If you’re considering PEDs or specifically steroids then you need to know the right terminology. These terms are some of the most commonly used in the community.
This is a hormone that encourages the improvement of male characteristics in the body.
They are commonly taken by bodybuilders as testosterone is a key ingredient in muscle strength and growth.
You may also hear them referred to as “anabolic androgenic steroids” in the scientific community.
This isn’t connected with flavors but rather the term used to describe the conversion of testosterone into estrogen.
When large amounts of testosterone enter the body then estrogen levels will also rise to keep the body balanced.
With high levels estrogen you are more likely to store fat, particularly round your waist. You may also start to develop gynecomastia and other feminine characteristics.
This simply means combining different steroids together to get more performance out of the products and avoid certain side effects.
Steroids are usually taken for a set period of time (usually 6 to 12 weeks) and then normally stopping for an equal amount of time.
The whole process is then started again hence the term cycling.
If you’re after steroids or any of the equipment (syringes, needles etc.) that goes with the taking of steroids then you’ll find it is commonly referred to as “gear”.
Steroids can bring on hormonal imbalances encouraging the development of female attributes.
Gynecomastia is effectively the development of breast tissue on a man. It is often referred to as “bitch tits” or “man boobs”.
This condition can also occur naturally and needs medical assistance to re-balance your hormones.
Any steroid that can be injected may be referred to as “juice”.
Post Cycle Therapy
When you take steroids for any period of time the aim is to inflate your current hormone levels and encourage muscle growth, performance and endurance.
Unfortunately this can make your body imbalanced; too many of one type of hormone can restrict the production of other hormones in the body.
Post cycle therapy is the compounds that you need to take after you’ve finished a cycle of steroids and before you start your next cycle.
The aim is to return the body to a balanced state (homeostasis) therefore prevent any long term damage occurring.
You can’t simply start taking a high dose of steroids; your body is likely to go into shock and this could lead to fatal consequences.
Instead you will need to slowly build up your use and tolerance of the steroid. This is generally referred to as pyramiding.
The idea is to reach the peak of your dose at the middle of your cycle and then scale back again until the next cycle.
If you only dabble with steroids occasionally then you can refer to yourself as shotgunning.
In contrast if you take a low dose and then cruise cross a cycle it will be referred to as “blast and cruise”.
To get the maximum effect you may need to combine your steroids.
However, instead of mixing steroids together you can opt to take several steroids at the same time and even add other drugs into the mix.
This is known as stacking.
So there you have the most common terminology and slang associated with these muscle enhancing drugs.
But maybe you want to make some serious muscle mass gains without the potential health risks that come with anabolic steroid use?
Well there is an alternative with natural testosterone boosters. Many bodybuilders and strength athletes have built strong respectable physiques by keeping things natural.
