Steroids have always been linked with the world of bodybuilding; this has given rise to a huge array of ‘facts’. Unfortunately not all of these are genuine facts.
It’s time to find out the truth…
Understanding Steroids
A steroid is any compound which has four carbon rings. They are full of hormones and vitamins. Of course, none of this is visible to the naked eye.
There are two main types of steroids:
1) Corticosteroids
These are the ones that your doctor will prescribe as they are good at treating a wide range of illnesses.
2) Anabolic
In contrast these are great at building muscle; which is why they are used by some bodybuilders.
In fact, an anabolic steroid mimics the role of testosterone in your body. This is an essential hormone for all men; it is responsible for your sex drive, energy and lean muscle.
Discovering the Different Types of Anabolic Steroids
An anabolic steroid is produced in a laboratory. This means that it is possible to manipulate their make-up to create several different types, these include:
- Nandrolone Decanoate
- Stanozolol
- Androstenedione
- Methandrostenolone
- Trenbolone
It doesn’t matter which one you take or whether you inject it, apply it as a cream or take it orally; the result is the same. It will increase your muscle mass.
It’s worth noting that the cream is generally used by older men looking to replace the natural loss of testosterone caused by aging.
Steroids Are Not the Same as Human Growth Hormone (HGH)
HGH is a natural substance produced by your body. Its role is to produce cells and ensure your hormones, enzymes and even brain works properly.
Steroids replicate the role of testosterone which enhances muscles and all your male traits. It is important to note that although it replicates testosterone it is not exactly the same.
The Dangers of Steroids
The fact is that extended use of anabolic steroids does come with some risks.
Research suggests that if you already have normal levels of testosterone and you take anabolic steroids you are likely to suffer from:
- Cardiovascular damage
- Liver, lung and other organ disease / damage
- Shrinking testicles
- The development of breasts
- Increased acne
- Water retention
- Increase in levels of LDL cholesterol
This is why you should consider carefully before you decide to start taking steroids.
Where to get Steroids
Anabolic steroids are not legal for the purposes of enhancing muscle or increasing your athletic prowess in any way.
Medical professionals can prescribe anabolic steroids but only if you have low testosterone, anemia or several other specific conditions.
The only other way to get steroids is through a ‘contact’. This is black market and you can never be sure exactly what you will be getting.
Normal Testosterone Levels
If you have between 300ng and 1,050ng per dl then you are considered to have normal testosterone levels. This is a large range!
Blow this you will have low testosterone. As T levels decline with age it is possible you will go below this threshold later in life.
If you are low on testosterone you are likely to display these symptoms:
- Low libido
- Erectile problems
- Fatigue and a lack of energy/ motivation
- Loss of hair
- Reduced muscle mass
- Irritable or have quick mood swings
If you think you have low testosterone you need to seek medical advice. A test will need to be done to establish this and talk through your options.
Boosting Testosterone without Steroids
Steroids are not the only option if you are looking to boost your T levels.
There are a number of natural supplements and you can even use testosterone boosters. Of course, you need to ensure which ones are the best test boosters, not all do exactly what they say!
Living healthily with moderate exercise and a balanced diet will also help. Higher levels of body fat have been shown to decrease testosterone levels.
In contrast strength training, high intensity training, proper rest and the right foods will ensure you have good levels of T.
You can check out the best testosterone boosting ingredients which include zinc and vitamin D3 and may require supplementation if you are low.
These are essential to boost the male hormone to optimal levels naturally.
It’s therefore time to review your eating habits, exercise routine and supplementation!
